Town Seal

The territory of the City/Town was divided into four districts after the passage of the new Home Rule Charter.  They consist of as nearly an equal number of inhabitants in each district as is possible, in compact and contiguous territory, bounded insofar as possible by the center line of known streets or ways or by other well-defined limits.  Each such district is composed of voting precincts otherwise established in accordance with general laws.

***ATTENTION***

In accordance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter 54, Section 6, precinct boundary lines must be redrawn every 10 years to reflect changes in the population based on the results of the most recent Federal Census.

The following map shows the changes made in West Springfield which will take effect December 31, 2011.

This process has taken many months and the final map represents a great deal of effort from State and Local Officials. It was the goal of the retired Town Clerk, Diane Foley, who began this process, as well as my goal in finishing it, to meet the requirements for redistricting with as little change in the precinct boundaries as possible.  I believe that goal has been met. Some changes were unavoidable but careful attention was paid to ensure as few voters as possible were required to change precincts.

Each household will be receiving notification in the Town’s annual census, beginning in mid-January, of what their new precinct will be and where the polling place for that precinct is. A full size, color version of this map will also be available for viewing in the Town Clerk’s Office at the Municipal Office Building.

Thank you,

Otto J. Frizzell
