Insurance Benefits
Group health and life insurance benefits are available to employees regularly working at least 20 hours per week, in accordance with Chapter 32b of the Massachusetts General Laws. Employees may enroll in the benefits of their choice within the first 30 days of employment. The effective date of coverage is the first day of the month following the date of hire.


Health Insurance
Employees may select either individual or family coverage from the Blue Cross Blue Shield plans listed below. Select the name of the plan to view the Summary of Benefits.

                                Network Blue New England (HMO)
                                Network Blue New England Deductible (HMO)
                                Blue Care Elect Preferred (PPO)
                                Master Medical (Indemnity)


The Town contributes 75% of the cost of the HMO plans and 60% of the cost of of the PPO and Indemnity plans. The current rate schedules are listed below.

The annual Open Enrollment takes place throughout the month of May. Changes made during Open Enrollment go into effect as of July 1st.

Life Insurance
Group term life insurance coverage of $2,000.00 is available to employees through Standard Insurance Company. Coverage includes basic life as well as accidental death and dismemberment. The Town contributes 75% of the premium. The current employee cost is $.64 per month. Open Enrollment does not apply to group term life coverage.



Section 125/Cafeteria Plan
Section 125 of the IRS code, otherwise known as the Cafeteria Plan, offers employees the opportunity to save on taxes through pre-tax payroll deductions. The Town's Cafeteria Plan allows pre-tax payroll deductions on premiums for health insurance, group life insurance, and certain voluntary benefits. Employees can also participate in the Flexible Spending Account that provides pre-tax reimbursement for eligible out-of-pocket medical and/or dependent care expenses.
