DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
The Town of West Springfield seeks a Director of Planning and Development with the vision and energy to provide leadership to multiple City departments including Community and Economic Development, Planning, Building, Conservation and Engineering. The Director, working closely with the Mayor, will have responsibility for coordinating these departments as well as many volunteer boards and commissions into a common vision that will carry the City through the first half of the 21st Century. The Planning and Development Director will seek to balance the interests of business, residents, and the regulatory requirements of departments while creating a dynamic relationship that protects our quality of life and increases its economic potential. The Director will be familiar with a participative local government, with highly
educated and passionate citizens, extremely active boards, committees and commissions.
The Director will guide the long term development of West Springfield's natural and built resources, monitor the City's comprehensive plans and develop neighborhood sub-area design plans; perform professional and administrative duties in planning, organizing and coordinating the City's planning, land use, inspections, conservation, economic and community development functions and activities. The successful applicant will lead the City in refining and improving all City planning functions, including improving development standards, enhanced long-range planning capabilities, improved communication between the department and other interested entities, and creating a more efficient and effective planning department.
A graduate or professional degree in urban planning, business administration, architecture, or related field preferred. A Bachelor's degree is required. Candidates should have seven to ten years of progressively responsible related experience in a managerial or leadership capacity within planning, design, construction, land use and comprehensive planning capacity or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
OFFICE ASSISTANT
The Town of West Springfield seeks qualified applicants for the full-time position of Office Assistant in the Mayor's Office. Responsibilities include performing varied functions and the exercise of good judgment in responding to inquiries, dealing with the public and in administering the function of the office in accordance with established departmental policies and standards. Successful candidate should have three to five years progressively responsible experience and should possess excellent written, verbal and office skills. Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential material is essential. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and familiarity with graphic programs a plus. Salary for this position is $14.33 per hour with competitive benefit package. Interested candidates
